Construction Project: A tale of two doors and two saws…

So - my weekend has been filled with 9 trips to Home Depot, 3 Publix visits, a nap and an already interesting construction project. So for some reason I consider myself handy - not a reality, but I believe this and have embarked on a new home construction project.

Currently there are 3 projects on the project stack - all are in red, not just due to schedule, but also red as for caution, since I always run into some level of stupidity. The projects in priority order: Basement build out, Deck/patio thing (under discussion) and the kitchen, which is how this site started. Two other project are in the concept phase - garage organizing and garage sale.

So I decided for the basement project to start, I needed the right tool for the right job - needed a Compound Miter saw. So I went to home depot - justified by my last project, Spring Lawn Shit, where I nearly chopped off my finger with an completely inappropriate use of a power tool. I rush in, I buy a bunch of stuff with my newly received Home Depot rewards card from American express, a perk if you could call being away from family for weeks a year a perk. One of the things I grab was what I had thought to be an on sale DeWALT mitre saw.

The next morning I eagerly awake to start cutting stuff - rapidly I start to wonder “whats up”, as the default blade on the DeWalt mitre saw was some weird metal cutting blade - I decide its some packaging decision which forces a new owner to buy a blade. Think - Razors and Razor blades or is it RAZR and RAZR versions?
My next trip to home depot begins - saw blade and other random items I think I need at the time for the project. After looking around the hardware isle, I begin to realize - I purchased a chop saw, definitely not the right tool for the job. With a click sigh I pick up some $69 off brand sale item as my new mitre saw. I was excited to own my first dewalt product - what a brand, but budget first - I did purchase a Ryobi cordless 14v drill, so at least similar brand - right?

Now I had to go home, unload the stuff and return the saw. I pack up the saw and am clearly concerned about the bite marks I child put on the box while gnawing on the box.

Nervously back to Home Depot with receipt in hand. After about ten minutes at returns, I figure out that my helper person is busy texting on her cell phone. This is now the 2 horrible service in a week due to texting, my last one was on a ferry from canada on a boarder crossing where he just sat and text while simutaneously texting with random complex word pauses when managing the car activity on the ferry. I’m confident that texting has become one of the most distracting technologies to date. Drive safely.

Return done, random incremental gear in the cart, rapid self-checkout and back at home. Building again! oops, nap required, now building again. My wife reminds me I am responsible for returning all the stuff we don’t use - I may have bought items which never would be used - braces, varied fasteners and other stuff. I agree and go on…. build…. build…

While the project isn’t done, I am clearly happy by the fact I have hung the door. That brings me to the two doors, my last serious home project was where I had to install a door to link two former apartments into my new home - a four bedroom with a in-law suite and separate staircases.

The house was north of 120 years old and had been added onto at least 2 times. I order the door, open the wall and find out - the two levels are OFF by about 2 feet. So I had a normal door on one side and a HOBBIT door on the other.
