Culinary Gizmodo

Cookin’ and Smiling

Cool Thermometer for food

So I did some BBQ-ing up north last week and my Aunt had a new gizomo, a meat thermometer which was crazy cool.  Yup been doing a little travel, so it was nice to see the family and do a little relaxing and get in a little water action.  Back to the cooking, so we were cooking chicken on the grill, which I have NEVER used a thermometer for before.  Cut and look team, cut and look.

Jane shows up with this grey device, but the Red one has a more serious look, and says I have to  “make sure I cook the meat fully”.  Obviously she doesn’t know I’m a pro.  I get handed what is essentially a “flip” thermometer gadget – I poke it in – things are heating up well and the device proves this.  I only used 1 chicken breast as the temp manager, but consistently kept flicking the device – open, close, open, close…  Not only was it more useful than the traditional stainless steel and class bubble one, but it’s fun and great for the OCD.

So I’ve finally got back and thought I might buy myself one – um no.   A little pricey for avoiding the traditional slice and look method.  Currently @ ~$90, so while a GREAT device, not in the value bucket for me, but could be for you.  I’m just a cheap on this one.
