A Culinary Experience: Aquavit – Circa 2005 or 2004

So maybe you wouldn’t call it mid-town, but as non-New Yorker who goes there mainly on business travel, it is to me. So the tale I tell is one of yesterday. But while you may be looking for a real restaurant review of Aquavit, you have not found it, instead you are getting culinary experience review. More about a holistic approach to culinary quests.

So we went to Aquavit, a scandinavian restaraunt. Yes such a thing exists and mainly they serve fish. In my mind [tag]Scandinavian food[/tag], was like [tag]Canadian food[/tag]. Where Canadian was [tag]American food[/tag] plus [tag]mayonaise[/tag], I thought scandinavian food was Dutch with a [tag]sauna[/tag]. Wrong!

I went to this meal excited as it was one of my first real time “in the city” as a business guy. So we have a business dinner with the chaps from work and we choose Aquavit. There’s some overly complex back story on the dinner, a friends sister worked there – whatever – supposed to be a great meal so let’s go!

Uh-oh a Pris-Fixe menu full of FISH! I don’t eat fish and I’m in a fish place that serves meals on glass block you would expect to see on a set flat from [tag]Less than Zero[/tag] which basically only serves fish. Cool.

I will say I really dug the dinning room, but I think they are no longer at the same location. From what I remember there was a water feature which I would think would be highlighted on website, but it is not. So I assume the 55th address is a new one. S

Aquavit is a great drink! Effectively sandinavian moonshine – more or less.

All in all, not that bad an experience – since the meal was free due to the back story relative who came and greeted us throughout our meal.
