Social Media Summit: A Gathering of Geeks, Moms and Friends
So I have finally sold out and now I am working to get involved with a group of folks who got me into this whole blogging thing. Social Media for me has moved from the blog to other platforms and this is probably what I’m going to focus on. Facebook consumes more of my time than any other app and Twitter is also creeping up on the time consumption.
Mountain Social 2009: The 4 P’s of Social Media is a weekend long event outside Helen Georgia in the mountains. I’ve been watching Jon go to conferences, as well as our other friends and I thought well maybe I should go to one, but it proves somewhat difficult with 2 kids. So with a history of event planning for Oracle, Home Depot and film production I put a stake in the ground and got the group to put in place a plan for a conference. Mountain Social was born, it is also a way for us to sneak away for almost a week. Can’t make it to bonaroo or burining man this year. Life is quickly moving and carefree travel is only thing I regret by not living close to my or Jon’s parents. Weather trumps travel.
For myself, this is will be a gathering of friends from all over, not just social media types. We are bringing in friends just to enjoy the weekend too, gotta have some daycare
. I’m clearly not a mommy blogger, since I don’t blog much anymore, but I do get online and help out friends. In the end, helping people out is my way of using social media and I’m excited about the event.
We have about 95 rooms left, the big cabins/cottages are already taken by our friends, but there are at least 7 left and I think 1 three bedroom and all the camping spots. I really thought the camping was the cool part, but early registrations don’t appear to be play that out. The other reason we did Helen is because of Oktoberfest which is this big party, yup Alpine kitsch and mountains.
I look forward to reading all the submissions for the final session and hopefully it’s folks like me – mom’s who submit. So I thought I would let some folks below know about it, thanks to this post.
You all are moms I read, so would be cool if you could submit an abstract, pass it on or give us some ideas… I’m stubbornly admitting that twitter is the best way to contact me – DARN YOU TWITTER! @emmyeg is me….
Miguelina – Congrats!
I would really like one of the folks I read to get the slot for the event, there is only 1 chick so far – Sarah Dopp, which I consider a coup, but let’s stack it up more. SECRET – I’m responsible for the space, so if we get a bunch of us who want to pitch and hang, I can add a track. We have already just about committed to a green track – so why not parenting.
