Cookin’ and Smiling

Orange you glad you had a pulled pork sandwich?

Just at some BBQ recently at One Star Ranch in Alpharetta, GA so I got to thinking about BBQ recipes.   It’s not so much as specific recipe as it is an accent idea.  So here is an idea of using Oranges to create a new version of your tired old BBQ sandwich.  Below are the ingredients for a delightful dish which is a “citrified” version of your current recipe, really one of the best sandwiches or plates of BBQ you can make.

  • 1 boneless pork shoulder (3 lb.)
  • 1 bottle (18 oz.) your favorite BBQ Sauce
  • Juice from 1 large orange
  • Mayo, recommend Duke’s, but only if you are in the south, at least I don’t think they have it outside the south
  • 12 sandwich rolls, split, toasted

PLACE meat in slow cooker; top with barbecue sauce and orange juice. Cover with lid.

COOK on LOW for 8 to 10 hours (or on HIGH for 4 to 6 hours). Remove meat from slow cooker; cut into small pieces or shred with fork. Return meat to slow cooker; stir until meat is evenly coated with the barbecue sauce mixture.

SPREAD mayo onto cut sides of rolls. Fill rolls evenly with meat mixture.
