Crazy Good Mushroom & Shallot Red Wine Sauce – Versatile

When you get a good wine sauce you need to document it.  Here is one that fits the bill…


  • 1/4 c. butter
  • 1/2 lb. mushrooms
  • 1 Shallot chopped
  • 3 tbsp. flour
  • 3/4 c. red table wine
  • 1 c. beef stock
  • Pepper and Thyme to taste

Melt butter over medium heat. Place sliced mushrooms and shallot in pan and saute lightly until browned. Blend in flour. Add wine and beef stock and cook until the mixture comes to a boil. Add seasonings to taste. Simmer 5 minutes.

Serve this sauce with a nicely cooked steak and smashed potatoes.  Works on just about everything meat wise and even on veggies.
